Membership in Alliance Française de Jackson is required for participation in all classes and conversation groups.

Beginning French • Session IV

Five-week Session

Northeast Jackson, near Eastover Drive

This class continues the course begun in Fall 2024. It will focus on communication by expanding the topics through increasing vocabulary, including more verbs, asking and answering questions, describing oneself and others, town places, and words of location and direction.

The four lessons cost $100/student plus a materials fee. With fewer than four enrollees the cost will increase.

The class meets in northeast Jackson near Eastover Drive. The class is conducted by a long-time French teacher. For the exact meeting place contact afdejackson@afjackson.org.

Enrollment is limited to 7 people and a prior knowledge of topics already covered.

Cost: $100.00 for four classes provided that at least four people enroll.

CONVERSATION GROUPS

In addition to classes, we also offer two conversation groups and a book club, with options appropriate for all levels of French. These groups are all free for members. Membership in AFJ is required to participate, but we invite guests to visit once or twice before making the decision to join. La Cercle des Amis – Advanced Round Table Conversation

For AFJ members only, this group for advanced speakers meets on Mondays, 2:00-3:30 p.m., in the Banner Hall foyer at tables across from Broadstreet Bakery. The conversation group is facilitated by a native French speaker. The group aims for free-flowing conversation on a range of topics, including current events, participants’ interests, and French travel and culture.

La Table Française – Conversation for All Levels

Free to AFJ Members
For AFJ members only, this group meets online on Saturdays. This conversation
group is for members of any level of French. Participants may come and listen or engage in conversation at the level at which they are comfortable. Each meeting is facilitated by fluent French speakers.

Club de Lecture – Intermediate French
Saturdays
3:45–4:30 p.m. | ZOOM
Free to AFJ Members
For members only, this group meets online on Saturdays. The group reads an agreed-upon book in French. Typically, members have read 10-12 specified pages before the discussion each week. They then discuss that part in French, and identify words new to them. The current book being read is Je vais mieux by David Foenkinos.
