In celebration of Mississippi’s bicentennial, trace the influence the architecture and interior furnishings of France have had on Mississippi’s decorative arts through Todd Sanders’ presentation.

Mr. Sanders, an adjunct instructor in Mississippi College’s Interior Design program, will illustrate and explain the characteristics of French furniture and architecture and relate these to examples in Mississippi. The presentation will address the styles of Louis XIV, Louis XV, Louis XVI, French provincial, Rococo revival, and Empire and Second Empire.

Mr. Sanders wrote Jackson’s North State Street in 2009 and has lectured on it. He has worked in the Historic Preservation division of the Department of Archives and History since 1992 and is currently Tax Incentives Coordinator. He has taught the history of architecture and interiors class in the Interior Design program at Mississippi College as well as the American Architectural History class offered as part of the Historic Preservation minor in the History Department also at Mississippi College. His wife, Nanci, is a former public school teacher and librarian and they have three children.
